Most SimpleAir patents have a priority date to original patent filings in January of 1996 and have been extensively scrutinized for patent validity. This scrutiny included a comprehensive reexamination of one of our key patents by the Reexamination Unit of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The Reexamination proceedings were initiated by BlackBerry in May 2011 and concluded in February 2013, with the Patent Office confirming the validity of all claims in their original form. The patent was also found valid in a jury trial against Google in January 2014. That same jury found that Google was guilty of infringing all asserted claims of the SimpleAir patent. In a second jury trial in March 2014 the jury awarded SimpleAir $85,000,000 for Google’s infringement of the SimpleAir patent during the period from March 2010 to the time of trial in January 2014.
